Urban Spring is a series of photographs taken in the city of Groningen during the spring season, when blossoming trees briefly transform the urban environment. Soft blooms appear along streets, squares, and canals, introducing color and fragility into a setting usually defined by stone, brick, and movement. The contrast between natural growth and the built environment becomes a central theme throughout the series. Shot with an analogue film camera on Portra film, the images carry a distinctive film look of soft tones, gentle contrast, and subtle color shifts that complements the fragility of the blossoms.

These blossoms subtly alter the mood of the city. Familiar urban scenes feel lighter, more reflective, and momentarily slowed down. The presence of flowering trees creates pockets of calm within the city’s rhythm, reminding the viewer of seasonal cycles unfolding alongside daily life. Urban Spring captures this temporary shift, exploring how nature’s return reshapes not the city itself, but the way it is experienced and perceived.
